What is the history of Findlay Creek?
Findlay Creek was planned as a future urban area: the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton began rezoning it in May 1988, and the Leitrim Community Design Plan was initiated in November 2003. Before development, the area was primarily undeveloped, with a mix of residential, industrial and institutional uses.
As of · Updated
Official plans were released in May 1989 with Leitrim Official Plan Amendment No. 10. Groups such as the Ottawa Field Naturalists Club objected because of the sensitive wetland system the subdivision would partly destroy, but plans went forward.
Vimy Ridge Public School opened in September 2017, a plan to widen Bank Street was announced in 2020 and began in 2022, and St. Veronica Catholic School opened in September 2024.
